§ 2 Why there is no scorecard
The rubric measures one thing: how far a document falls short of the abolitionist standard, on six dimensions scored 0–2. It has nothing to measure in a document that does not fall short, so the dataset author left this record unscored and classified it by reading it instead.
Control record — meets or exceeds the standard. Record that meets or exceeds the standard on the dimension at issue; kept for contrast, scores null or low.
It is kept as a control: a reference point for what a pro-life document that does not compromise looks like, for comparison with the scored records. Compare any scored letter's scorecard to see what the six dimensions look like when they apply.
